Hello everybody!!! This blog is to inform you all about Freedom of Speech.
Date: 13th September, 2008, Saturday
Time: 3PM
Venue: D-6, Kathajori Campus (Campus-3)

Rules:
There will be 8 teams shortlisted based on answers given to the caselets posted on the blog. In the 1st Stage, there will be 4 rounds, each consisting of 2 teams. The 2 teams in that particular round will fight it out on a topic given to them just half-an-hour before. Whoever wins that round goes to the next stage. The other team is eliminated.

In the 2nd Stage, there will be 2 rounds, each again consisting of 2 teams and they will again fight it out on a new topic. The winner of each round of the 2nd stage goes to the 3rd and final stage.

In the final stage, the 2 teams will fight it out for the Championship on a new topic again. The winner of the final stage will be declared the Champions and the other team will be the runners-up.

Each round will go on for around 7 minutes.

Teams which will not be among the 8 shortlisted ones are welcome to be present on 13th September at D-6 because, for all that I know and expect, this is going to be interesting and even the audience will be asked for their opinions on the topics being debated upon. Freedom of Speech

Hello people!!!

KRONICLE, the literary society of KIIT University, is starting a group debate competition "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" from this year onwards as a part of the Independence Month Programme. This is a new initiative by the society and we hope you all will help us make this event a success.

The concept of this competition is simple. This is a team event, each team consisting of 3-4 members. There will be 8 teams facing each other in 4 knock-out rounds. Each round will have 2 teams selected at random debating on a given topic. In the next level the selected 4 teams will again debate in 2 knock-out rounds on new topics. The final 2 teams will fight it out in the Grand Finale and one will emerge as The Champion!! The teams will be judged by our esteemed panel of jury based on different parameters which will be announced at some later date on this blog.

But before the final event, 8 teams will be short-listed based on the answers that they send to the 3 Caselets given below. Send in your answers to kronicle.kiit@gmail.com on or before 26th of August, 2008. Each answer should have a word limit not exceeding 150 words. Along with the answers send in your team-name and the name of the members of your team and the Mobile numbers of atleast 2 team members. The selected teams will be notified 2 days before the event.

Remember! Winners don't do different things. They do things differently!!! Are you the ONES????

Caselet
-1

Ajay is a management trainee at an organization that deals in supplying hardware to customers. His boss Mr. Patil has been thinking of a plan. A consignment, which was due to a Superintendent of Police (SP) who has huge political influence, has not been delivered to him. It had been promised that the consignment would be delivered in 30 days, but so far 45 days have lapsed. Mr. Patil is thinking that he would deliver an empty consignment to this client and since it is a company policy that the SP cannot open the box till somebody from Mr. Patil's organization assists him, he would take advantage of this policy. In the meanwhile, he would substitute the box with the actual deliverable. Ajay finds this unethical, and he asks Mr. Patil, but he says that everything is fair in war and business. In your opinion, what should Ajay do?

CASELET-2

In the psychology department of a college, the Principal of the college announces in a function that Mrs. Reddy would be the next head of the department. Now this comes as a shock to Mrs. Reddy, because she had not been taken into confidence and she liked just teaching her students. The retiring head Mrs. Smith was a capable head and although Mrs. Reddy had, in the past, helped her in her duties, yet she did not want to be tied to that position. The reason why Mrs. Reddy was made head was because there was a policy of the department that the senior-most teachers are made the next head, which obviously Mrs. Reddy satisfied. Now Mrs. Reddy leaves the function and goes back to her house thinking about the whole thing. The question is what should Mrs. Reddy do?

CASELET-3

Amma is a 40 yr old woman who has 2 daughters - 1 is married and the other is doing her 10th standard. She works in a cooperative where 35 other women support her. She makes ropes in the cooperative and earns Rs.600/ month. She was looking for alternative ways of making a little more money. She knows how to make a special kind of pickle. She bought the required stuffs - 8kg of tomatoes at a total cost of Rs.30, 1.5 l of oil at Rs.90, 200 gm bottles at Rs.20 per bottle, miscellaneous ingredients (ginger, garlic etc.) at Rs.57. She has an earning of Rs.203 from this venture by selling these pickle bottles at Rs. 10/bottle when actually the market price for such pickle is Rs.16/bottle. Since she was handpicking her tomatoes, her quality was also maintained. A friend told her that if she did this exercise just 4 times a month then she would be able to earn more than what she is presently earning with her rope trade. A young graduate Sheela heard about Amma’s business and offered her a loan of Rs.15000 to set up pickle making unit plus a Rs. 5000 grant. Should Amma accept this offer??

So people, sit up, tease your brains and apply your thoughts!! Send in your answers not exceeding 150 words on or before 26th of August, 2008 to kronicle.kiit@gmail.com
